Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Part 1

With Chiropractic, people often only think of back or neck pain, but there are many other common ailments it can treat. In the next series of blogs, I’ll be discussing how Chiropractic can help you from head to toe!

Treating Headaches with Chiropractic Care

Head

Cervicogenic headaches are characterized by pain on one side of the head with associated neck pain on the same side. A patient with these headaches perceives pain in the head, but the actual source of the pain lies in the cervical spine. According to several recent studies done at Harvard Medical School, chiropractic treatments can decrease the frequency and length of headaches. In particular, one study showed that a group of cervicogenic headache patients who received spinal manipulation and soft tissue therapy did significantly better than a similar group which received only soft tissue therapy. That’s pretty good news for those of you who suffer from these kinds of chronic headaches!

Shoulders

Shoulder pain can be caused by an array of problems: Bursitis/Tendonitis, Rotator Cuff Tendonitis or Tear, Arthritis, Frozen Shoulder, Dislocation, Biceps Tendon Rupture, Shoulder Separation, etc. That probably seems overwhelming, which is why at River Ridge Chiropractic, we do a very careful examination first in order to figure out the right treatment plan. We take a closer look at your clavicle (collarbone), humerus (upper arm), and scapula (the shoulder blade) in order to determine the source of your pain, and if there may be any underlying mechanical issues. It’s important for you to let us know if you’ve experienced any trauma to the area, as that may affect our treatment plan. Our end goal is to improve mobility in the area and facilitate healing.

Stay tuned for our next blog, where I’ll be discussing, you guessed it… knees and toes.
