When you are looking for a chiropractor, you often know something is wrong, but you aren’t sure exactly what it is and how it can be fixed.
Most patients find themselves thinking: “I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I feel like something is going on”. They can tell something is not working right in their back and they want to do something before it gets worse. For the next few blog posts, I’ll be sharing some stories of patients of River Ridge Chiropractic (all names have been changed) and how they were helped.
While I am a chiropractor, chiropractic may not always be the correct therapy for a patient. A patient named Sarah came in not too long ago. She had gone to another chiropractor, had x-rays done and the chiropractor adjusted her. Unfortunately, Sarah did not improve, in fact she felt worse. She went on the Internet to find other options.
As I listed to her history, I felt it was important to get an MRI since both pain-medication and an adjustment had not helped her (an adjustment should never hurt you – but sometimes it doesn’t help). I decided not to test the water of adjusting again, instead I listened to the patient, and we decided to go with spinal decompression.
6 weeks before she could not sit or bend over, now she is back to participating exercise classes.
Now that her mechanics are working properly, I won’t end up adjusting her unless future mechanical issues appear.
It’s always important to listen to the patient, and as a patient it’s always important to make sure your health care provider is listening to you.
